Today has been an absolute crazy day.
8am - Arrive at office.
Watched the service from last night. Made some mental and actual notes on what we could have done better and how I could have been more effective in my presentation.
10am - 180 Registration Meeting
Myself and a few of my staff members met with our IT department to plan out a major registration overhaul of Oneighty. I'm looking forward to the new system. It will be much more effective and serve our students better.
12noon - Consulting Call
Spoke with one of the youth pastors I consult with each month on the phone. Jeff Hughes is from Muncie, Indiana and flat out tearing it up. It's an honor that he wants to get my opinion on ministry.
1pm - Young Adult Ministry Meeting
Had the opportunity to brainstorm with COTM staff about some new young adult stuff we're going to be doing here at the church. Very fun and creative meeting. Great things are in store.
This may seem like an extremely boring day. But the truth is, if done right, it is day's like today that shape the future, make things better, and win people to Christ. Meetings are extremely important.
Here are some things I always make sure to do for meetings.
1) Ask the question ..."Do we really have to meet or can this be done over the phone or email?"
2) Set the "win" for the meeting. What are the top three things we want to accomplish.
3) Prepare all the information needed to be able to play a solid role in the discussion.
4) Stay on task during the meeting.
5) If getting off on rabbit trails, take a break and come back when ready to focus again.
6) When the "win" has been accomplished, call the meeting over and move on.
If you do meetings right, they can be fun, energetic and catalyst for change in your ministry.
