This month we kicked off a brand new series here at Oneighty, it's called REACH.
The overall goal of this series is to help students reach up and connect with God, reach in and clean up their mess, and finally reach out and help a friend.
Here is a quick snapshot of week one of our series.
REACH UP and connect with God.
There once was a little girl that went to Oregon with her family. As they looked over the cliff to view the ocean, the little three year old girl fell thru the fence and was dangling off a 150' cliff. Just then a large man, with no thought of his own safety jumped the fence and reached down his hand to save the girl. The toddler, reached up and held onto the mans hand for dear life, as he pulled her up to safety.
Here is the point of this true story, you and I are the little girl. We have fallen thru the protective fence of God's law and are dangling off the 150' cliff of sin. God, with no thought for himself, jumped the fence, and in the form of his son Jesus Christ, reached down his hand to save us from a sure death, and eternity in hell.
God is reaching down, but it is up to us to reach up and hold onto his grace. Even though we are not saved by our works, we live in a world that is trying to pull us away from our Savior. Because of that we need to connect with God, we need to have a strong grip on him.
Just like our hand has five fingers, there are five ways we need to connect with God.
Thumb - Read the Bible.
Pointer Finger - Pray.
Middle Finger - Memorize Scripture
Ring Finger - Church Attendance
Pinky - Sabbath
The more we begin to do these things each week, the stronger grip we will have on God and his amazing grace.
Tomorrow I will give you week two of our series called REACH.
