Philippians 3:13-14
Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
One of the greatest things I love about the Apostle Paul is that he was never satisfied. Paul was not one to plop his feet up in an easy boy recliner, grab a cold beverage and recount all the great things God had done through him in the past. No, with Paul there was always another person that needed healed, or another city that needed to be reached. Paul had made up his mind to forget the great things of yesterday, and walk toward an even better tomorrow.
I've had the honor of being the youth pastor here at Oneighty, the youth ministry of Church on the Move for the past 4 1/2 years. In that time one of the things I've noticed is that my Pastor, Pastor Willie George is a lot like the Apostle Paul. He doesn't sit back and recount all the wins of the past. No, Pastor, is always listening to God, receiving instruction, then moving onto the next thing God is calling us to do.
In the past 4 1/2 years, Church on the Move has...
1) Totally remodeled Dry Gulch USA.
2) Retooled and restarted Christmas Train (In the past two years we have ministered to over 100,000 people through this ministry)
3) Built a brand new High School for our Christian School.
4) Took on the largest Financial Campaign of our history to totally remodel our entire Church.
5) Re-organized our summer camp program (just had our best summer ever).
6) Redesigned our Childrens ministry to better fit our age groups.
7) Started a weekend relational Junior High Ministry.
8) Began a brand new College Age Ministry.
9) Currently having 8 Christmas services and packing the place out for each one.
These are just a few of the large things that we have done. To be honest there are countless, little tweaks and changes that we've made to each and every ministry of our Church, and it all comes from our leader. Pastor George has instilled in each of us, the desire to never sit back, prop up our feet and relive the good ol' days of yesterday.
Just like the Apostle Paul and the great Christian Leaders of old. God is calling us as individual ministries and churches to bigger and better things. So lets, forget the successes and failures of yesterday and move on to what God has for us tomorrow.
Because, yesterday is never as good as tomorrow could be!
